Use line numbers; you’ll need them in the next questions. Part 2 (5 points): Annotate five cases of narrow transcription, with at least one of each of the following categories: vocal noise, vocal quality, transcriber comments. Place the annotations in your fragment. Write up underneath the fragment on which line numbers the narrow transcriptions can be found. Part 3 (6 points): Find three adjacency pairs in the data and give their line numbers (of both members of the pair). Describe what kind speech act the first pair part carries out and whether the second part is a preferred or a dispreferred response — discuss how you can tell that it is a preferred or a dispreferred response. Part 4 (3 points): Describe, in a non-technical way and in up to 200 words, what the speakers are doing interactionally in either of the following two fragments (pick one). That is: try to answer the question why they might be producing the intonation units and making the sounds you hear in that fragment.
Place all your answers in a document and submit it as a pdf. You do not need to cite the textbook or my lectures/slides for any of these answers, but do use citations if you’re using external resources.
