Did Nurse Joserine delegate tasks appropriately? Why or why not?
Delegating responsibilities is a task that necessitates the completion of various procedures in order to guarantee that activities operate smoothly and with minimal disruptions (Levin, 2018). Procedures are expected to run in a precise way in any organization. If a specific person is absent, his or her responsibilities must be taken over by someone else who is capable of filling the void. In the example of Nurse Joserine, I believe she was correct in delegating her responsibilities since she needed a break. She, on the other hand, did not do a particularly excellent job. Joserine only followed two of the five steps for effective delegation. She started by appointing the right people to each assignment. Second, she addressed the responsibilities and expectations of the people who had been appointed. She did not, however, specify a deadline or a method for assessing the individual’s development. Besides, Joserine barely managed to convey to her delegates the level of power that came with their acquired roles.
Moreover, the delegation went horribly wrong. This is due to the fact that the person delegating the functions did not have all of the necessary information. Instead, he chose to refer those who would be performing the functions to others. That was a blunder in information transmission. Delegation procedures: Identify the roles that need to be delegated and select a person who is capable of performing the function based on their experience. Identify and make available any resources that will ensure appropriate delegation of functions during the process. Develop rapport in order to establish positive interactions that will lead to the establishment of mutual trust between the persons concerned. Effectively communicate with the individual who will be doing the function.
Delegate the responsibilities
Who will be held accountable for the outcomes of the roles/tasks that Nurse Joserine has delegated?
Accountability is a crucial characteristic that ensures people maintain high levels of responsibility (Kendall, 2018). The selected delegates in the case of Joserine must be under the control of someone higher up. The nurse coordinator, who has been tasked with dealing with crises and other duties, will report to the medical institution’s CEO. Because there is no one else who can fill this position, the clinical specialist will also report to the CEO. It is vital to highlight, however, that these two persons lack adequate expertise of how to handle the responsibilities that have been allocated to them. As a result, if any damages occur, Nurse Joserine will be held liable for the actions of her representatives.

Nurse joserine did not delegate the task properly since he failed to follow the five steps involved in the delegation process (Barrow & Sharma, 2020). The first step is finding the right task. Nurse Joserine should first determine which task should be delegated according to the hospital policy. He should find the appropriate tasks to the right person. Next if the right circumstances in which the environment must be best to assign. Although the workload is overwhelming, his decision to delegate his duties were not for the right circumstances. He could contact management to seek advice. After the right task and the right circumstances the next step is to find the right person. The potential delegates should have the requisite knowledge and experience to complete delegated tasks safely. In this case, he failed to check whether Nurse Jeleen and Nurse Mae have knowledge regarding this. The fourth step is the right supervision – it must be available in all situations. In this case, Joserine should monitor how tasks have been done and if they are completed competently. He is responsible to follow up and evaluate outcomes. The final right is the right direction and communication. Communication plays an important role in order to successfully delegating tasks. Delegatees should be given detailed instructions on how and when to complete the tasks. It is also Joserines accountability to assess if the information is understood correctly.
Delegating a task means to assign a person for a particular task. Overall, it is also the responsibility of the nurse manager to assess the knowledge of delegatees, educate, giving specific directions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the completed tasks. According to the American Nurses Association, its always your responsibility to articulate your limitations and to get an adjustment to the assignment that acknowledges the limitations you have articulated. Good-faith acceptance of an assignment means that you are concerned about the situation and believe that a different pattern of care or policy should be considered. (American Nurses Association). The delegates are also then accountable for accepting the delegation and for the actions in carrying out the delegated tasks. Therefore, the delegate and the delegator are both ultimately accountable for the appropriateness and supervision of these certain delegated tasks. Thus the nurse delegator, especially in this certain situation may incur liability if found negligent in the process of delegating and supervising. Nurse Joserine will be held accountable for the outcome as delegator. Improper delegation can result in poor patient care and can have a legal action on the delegator. Joserine ‘s delegation of duty is not appropriate because his delegatees have no adequate knowledge about the process. Joserine should arrange a training program before delegating the duties to the appropriate registered nurses.
