ART 1 OF THE DISCUSSION PROMPT: INTRODUCTIONS AND CONCLUSIONS
Introductions (beginnings) and conclusions serve to frame an article and contribute to its overall cohesion. The topic and key idea are introduced in the introduction (thesis). The opening has two purposes: it piques the reader’s interest and establishes the essay’s direction and scope. It acclimates the reader to what is about to be read. The thesis is reaffirmed (said in a different way) and the concepts are completed in the conclusion. For the reader, the conclusion brings the article to a satisfying end.Two introduction paragraphs for an essay on the necessity of training children to swim are provided below. Answer the following questions after reading and analyzing the two paragraphs:
Which of the two introductions is the more effective? Give an explanation for your response. Make a list of the advantages and disadvantages of each introduction.
What would the essay’s body be like (assuming you chose the more effective introduction)? What sort of proof would be included? In your response, be particular rather than broad.

1st introduction
Humans live in a world that is more than 70% water. We have developed millions of swimming pools for sports and recreational activities in addition to these vast bodies of water. Most people will be confronted with either the danger of drowning or the challenge of aquatic leisure at some point in their lives. It is critical that we learn to swim for these reasons. I understand the value of understanding how to swim as a competitive swimmer and a swimming instructor.
2nd Introduction
Carl, a curious four-year-old like most kids, walked out onto his pool patio last spring. He fell into the pool and sank to the bottom helplessly since he couldn’t swim. His uncle discovered the youngster minutes later and carried him to the surface. Carl had no pulse, so his uncle started CPR right away until the paramedics arrived. He was eventually resurrected. His mother enrolled him in beginner swimming lessons while he was in the hospital. Carl was extremely fortunate. He was given a second opportunity, unlike hundreds of other youngsters and adults.
