Instructions
This assignment encourages you to compare and contrast how two states have handled immigration policy or same-sex marriage controversies, based on your research and analysis.
You will set this process in the right context in each state in order to grasp the link between power and political and legal decision-making. That means you’ll have to consider the historical, demographic, cultural, and economical aspects that have shaped each state’s approach to immigration or same-sex marriage. You’ll also consider the repercussions of disparities in policies and legislation between states when it comes to contentious social and political issues like these.
This assessment combines the most important aspects of sociologically studying cultural diversity: placing current social issues in historical context, understanding how demographic and cultural trends influence public opinion, and applying sociological theories to determine the role of power in shaping policy-making decisions.
Write an essay that addresses each of the three parts listed below:
Part 1 Answer the following questions:
. As it relates to your chosen topic, discuss one of the following for each of the two states you have chosen:
