Community Outreach Discussion Assignment Help
Student post down below:
Community outreach is an important component in any organization. Engagement with the community presents an opportunity to build relationships. There is also an opportunity to highlight the services available to the clients. Outreach is also useful when an agency is trying to appeal to a group that is not being served.
Outreach is an unique way of appealing to people from diverse backgrounds. This is important because sometimes services have to be removed from the normal setting and offered in places that are familiar to those in need of the service (Peate, 2016). As a result of this, agency staff have an opportunity to interact with potential clients and highlight the program and sservices they offer.
For instance, the community center in my old neighborhood provides a foodbank one day a week. Many of the foodbank participants are senior citizens and were not aware of the senior activities at the center! With that, by participating in the foodbank, the seniors learned about activities and registered for the program.
To that end, the foodbank program served as a gateway to the other programs and services offered by the center. The program also responds to the needs of the community. Many are cash-strapped and reside in one-income households. Therefore, the additional provisions are helpful to those disadvantaged households in the community. At the end of the day, sometimes professionals have to bring the health and social care services to the client’s backyard (Peate, 2016).
