Chapter 1 of the dissertation is the introduction chapter. Chapter 1 tells the reader what the dissertation is about and how the paper is organized. It addresses what you will be investigating, why it is worth exploring, the research questions, the scope of your study, what methodology you will adopt, and how you will structure your dissertation.
Chapter 2 is the literature review. In this section, you will analyze the existing research to understand the following questions:
- What does the literature currently say about your topic?
- Is the literature well established?
- How does your research fit into the bigger picture.
- How does your research contribute something original?
- How does the methodology of previous studies help you develop your own?
Chapter 3 is the methodology (Baron, n.d.). This Chapter should include sufficient information for replication of the study by other researchers. In Chapter 3, the introduction tells the reader what the Chapter is about and organized, and provides a short paragraph regarding your topic. In chapter 3, you need to address two critical questions:
How will you carry out your research?
Why have you chosen to do things this way?

Bell et al. (2019) stated that proposal details might vary between academic departments and faculty. Chapter two of the dissertation will vary significantly depending on the particular content of the study (Belhaven Dissertation Template Version 1.0, n.d.). Still, chapter two must include the literature review (Belhaven Dissertation Template Version 1.0, n.d.). The literature review must establish the researcher’s subject matter expertise concerning the research topic, identify the gap in the body of knowledge that is being filled by the research, and establish the conceptual framework that enlightens the design of the research (Belhaven Dissertation Template Version 1.0, n.d.).
Chapter three begins with familiarizing the reader with the research methods being used in the study (Belhaven Dissertation Template Version 1.0, n.d.). Next, the research questions, propositions, and hypotheses are restated (Belhaven Dissertation Template Version 1.0, n.d.). Then, the research design is explained and elucidated (Belhaven Dissertation Template Version 1.0, n.d.). Components included in this section may consist of population and sampling, the sampling procedure, instruments used for data collection, information relating to the validity of the research, and information informing the reliability of the research (Belhaven Dissertation Template Version 1.0, n.d.). The means by which data is collected and analyzed will also be addressed in chapter three. Chapter three concludes by addressing any ethical considerations of the study and a summary of the chapter.
Based on my understanding, the purpose of chapter one is to provide the reader with an overview of the research topic and of the dissertation (Belhaven Dissertation Template Version 1.0, n.d.). Chapter two aims to provide a more detailed analysis of the available literature to identify a gap in the body of knowledge and establish the researcher as a subject matter expert (Belhaven Dissertation Template Version 1.0, n.d.). Chapter three intends to provide the reader with a detailed examination of the research design (Belhaven Dissertation Template Version 1.0, n.d.).

According to the Belhaven DBA dissertation guide, the final chapters are chapter 4 and chapter 5. Once the proposal is completed, the researcher will conduct the study as described in the proposal (i.e., chapters 1-3). After conducting the study, the researcher will discuss the results of the study in chapter 4. This chapter is not part of the proposal because it cannot be completed until after the study is conducted.
Chapter 4 may include charts and tables but the charts and tables should be supplemented with adequate narrative to describe the data and findings. This chapter should exclude any researcher bias and be as objective as possible. Chapter 5 will present the interpretations and conclusions of the study findings. It will also explain any limitations of the study as well as implications for the field of study. One other component is the recommendation for further research as a part of the conclusion (Bell et al., 2020).

The final chapters in a proposal are chapter four and chapter five. Chapter four is where the data is gathered in a presentation. Chapter four is the place where the reader will have an opportunity to review the data. There should also be a summary of the first chapter. In chapter four the writer gets the opportunity to present all the information that was found during the study. Any charts, figures, number, and graphs should be documented in chapter four.
Chapter five includes the conclusions and recommendations. There should be a summary of the entire study included in these chapter. Any information that was not mentioned in chapter four should be mentioned in chapter five. The recommendations should be placed at the end of the chapter.
