Assignment on social science
INSTRUCTIONS: In your report, you will answer the following questions on the one country you have been assigned to research: You must (1) identify and explain the country’s criminal justice model, including which law family it belongs to and what type of criminal procedure it employs, (2) describe the similarities and differences between this country’s criminal justice system and that of the United States, and (3) assess the country’s strengths and weaknesses in terms of law enforcement, criminal procedure, and court procedures. Peer-reviewed scientific journal papers must back up the responses to these various inquiries. The references must be included in the whole reference list, as well as correctly referenced in the text! Even if you include them in the full reference list, you must show where in your text you use them; otherwise, they will not count towards the paper requirements.
o OBJECTIVE: With this paper, you will be able to demonstrate that you understand and can critically discuss the criminal justice system in a country other than the United States and the six model nations discussed in the textbook, compare it to other criminal justice systems, and assess its strengths and weaknesses in terms of law enforcement, criminal procedure, courts, sentencing, and corrections. To do so, you will need to consult scientific literature.
o METHOD:
All written assignments must include a cover page with your name and Student ID, title, word count, course name, class day and time, instructor’s name, and assignment due date.
Include an introduction (what is the topic of the article and what are the key points of discussion?) and a discussion of your findings (what did you uncover in the literature in response to the prescribed questions?) in the paper. and a final thought (this is not a summary of your findings but a critical reflection on your findings in response to the assigned questions).
At the end of your paper, make a reference list with all of your references. Only include references that you have used in the text; do not include sources that you have read but did not utilize in your paper. To be counted, references must also be referenced in your content.
Please keep in mind that the cover sheet and reference list are not included in the word count.
o REFERENCES: A minimum of three (3) peer-reviewed scientific references must be included in the manuscript (peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, chapters in scientific books- your textbook also counts).
Newspaper articles, news site postings, blogs, and websites (government websites, organization websites) are not considered scholarly sources. You may use them, but they will not be counted toward the paper’s reference requirements.
In your paper, do not use Wikipedia, Encyclopedia Britannica, or other encyclopedia-style websites. You can look at essential concepts on them, but you’ll need to find scholarly references (e.g., articles in scientific peer-reviewed journals) to explain and use these notions in your work.
Do not copy information from an online source into your work without citing it!
Rather than using extended quotes from a source, use paraphrase. The assignment’s goal is for you to show that you comprehend and can apply the subject.
You must cite all of your sources both in the text and in the reference list.
o WORD COUNT: The paper should be 1500 words long, with a 100-word margin on all sides.
The word count does not include the cover page (which includes your name and student ID, the word count, the name of the course, the day and time of the class, the instructor’s name, and the due date of the assignment) or the reference list!
Please be aware that failing to adhere to the word count will result in a penalty.
The maximum grade you may obtain for a paper that is LESS than 1400 words (not including the cover page and references) is a D!
The maximum grade you can obtain for a paper that surpasses the word restriction of 1600 words (not counting the cover page and references) is a B! (Because of the time constraint, you must be clear, concise, and to-the-point; there is no space for fluff or waffling.)
(Guatemala is the country to which I was assigned.)
Minimum word count: 1500; maximum word count: 1600
