Scenario: A city’s government isn’t focused on increasing money or profits, but rather on enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. Many American cities are plagued by heavy traffic and gridlock. Finding a parking spot, whether on the street or in a parking lot, can take time and add to traffic congestion. To relieve traffic congestion and improve traffic flow, some cities have used data-driven parking spot management.
You work as a statistics analyst for a mid-sized city that is expecting major population and traffic growth. The city is weighing whether it is worthwhile to invest in infrastructure to count and report the number of parking spaces available in various parking lots throughout the city. This information would be collected and processed in real time, and fed into an app that motorists could use to locate available parking spaces in various parking lots throughout the city.
Instructions: Use the Excel database that has been provided. The columns in this database are as follows:
LotCode: A one-of-a-kind code that identifies a certain parking lot.
LotCapacity: A figure that represents the capacity of a parking lot.
LotOccupancy: A figure representing the number of cars currently parked in the parking lot.
TimeStamp: A date that indicates when the occupancy was measured.
Day: The weekday that corresponds to the TimeStamp.
Create a new column, OccupancyRate, to keep track of the occupancy rate as a percentage with one decimal place. For example, if the current LotOccupancy is 61 and the LotCapacity is 577, the OccupancyRate will be 10.6. (or 10.6 percent ).
Create box plots for each day of the week using the OccupancyRate and Day columns. Insert > Insert Statistic Chart >Box and Whisker might be used for this.
