Arsenic Major Health Concern Paper
Arsenic, Major, Health, Concern, Paper
To Whom This May Concern,
My name is Kalabari B. Kalabari and I am writing on behalf of the city of Buguma, Rivers State. We have recently discovered that XXX company has been using an excessive amount of ARSENIC which is a major health concern to the city of Buguma.
As an Environmental Health Specialist, I have researched that your company has been using ARSENIC as an alloying agent to process glass and medal adhesives. Since ARSENIC is very harmful in long-term doses, I would like to collaborate with your company in order to find a better and safer solution other than ARSENIC.
I understand that you may not know or understand the harm that arsenic can cause to the human body so I would like to explain. ARSENIC is a natural component of the earth’s crust and is widely distributed throughout the environment in the air, water and land but it is highly toxic in its organic form.
By your company using arsenic in its inorganic form is a serious cause for concern since Charleston has many water sources that can become contaminated due to your company’s usage of ARSENIC.
Inorganic ARSENIC is a confirmed carcinogen and the most significant chemical contaminant in drinking water. ARSENIC in this form is extremely toxic and will cause serious harm to people who are exposed to it. The acute effects of arsenic poising in humans are is vomiting, abdominal pain, and muscle cramping.
The long-term effects of arsenic poising are pigment changes of the skin, skin lesions, pulmonary disease, cardiovascular disease, heart attack, remaining symptoms of the acute symptoms, and death. As a Public Health Representative, my goal is to make sure that the citizens of Charleston are protected from any contaminants and environmental hazards.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has specific rules and regulations relating to contaminants within the water supply. The EPA sets the arsenic standard for drinking water at 10 parts per billion (ppb). This regulation protects people from the effects of long-term, chronic exposure to ARSENIC.
I do realize that monitoring these numbers in order to be within regulation is tedious and leaves plenty of room for error which is why I want to collaborate with your company and implement some alternatives that will still allow your business to thrive while still creating a safe environment for your employees and the community.
I would like to schedule a day to make a visit and have a tour of your company and to observe the day-to-day functioning with arsenic. Once this is conducted, we can evaluate our options that will be more feasible for your company. My goal is to provide the best solution for your company while still protecting the health of the community.
My team and I will also assist in removing the excess arsenic from your facility in order to make sure it is disposed properly and this will not be a fee that the company would have to worry about because our job is to make sure that harmful contaminates are disposed effectively in order to reduce risk exposure.
All other necessities such as supplies delivery will also be compensated without any charge to your company for complying to the changes being made to reduce your company’s use of ARSENIC. I hope with everything I have provided you with that you will strongly consider my offer and we can work together to make your company a safer organization.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to reach out and look forward to doing business with you.
Best,
Kalabari B. Kalabari
Environmental Health Specialist
