Analysis of A Theme Essay
Objective: As I talked about in class, analysis is the backbone of college-level writing and thinking. It’s a skill that will serve you well beyond the classroom. We’ll be extending our analysis of the third academic challenge (augmented reality and digital consciousness). Essentially, this paper is an exploratory analysis, one that begins to inquire into the topic of augmented reality and digital consciousness. You’re not proposing anything in it. You’re not going to say we should or should not do this. You’re simply using various lenses and your own self to explore how we should approach the prompt.
Directions: You’ll be writing a 4-5 page paper. Here are some guidelines for you to consider:
You should already have some analysis generated for the paper, which should make it easier to write.
Your paper should include at least three different lenses from which you can explore the topic.
Note: I’m not asking you to do research for this paper. We’re going to talk about incorporating research into work more efficiently. I’m asking you to generate thoughts about what we can learn from a particular lens through your own thoughts.
Each lens should include an informational paragraph, where you analyze the importance of a particular aspect of the lens. In other words, explain to reader why this particular lens needs to be used. Additionally, you’re going to add a generative paragraph that analyzes the potential pros and cons of using such a lens for considering our prompt.
Make sure you follow the college-level body paragraph notes for your body paragraphs. I will be looking for the steps in each body paragraph.
I will especially be considering how well you write your analysis sections for each paragraph. Remember, informational paragraphs are about informing the reader; generative paragraphs are about generating meaning out of the information.
Take a look at the syllabus and the guidelines for our out-of-class assignments. If you don’t follow those guidelines, you can already start knocking points off of your own paper—and we don’t want that.
You can guarantee that you’ll be losing points if you don’t adhere to the one paragraph, one idea policy. I want to see you building meaning from one particular idea.
Do not try and make your paper conform to a five-paragraph essay. Your ideas need to dictate how many paragraphs you need.
We’ve been working on body paragraphs; however, you will still need introduction and conclusion paragraphs for this paper.
