Could Amazon (or another business) ship you merchandise BEFORE you order or even know you have a need or want?
For me as is right now it sounds very complicated. I don’t see how Amazon would approach it without having a lot of losses and confusion from their customers. Even though it is possible to predict by purchase history which merchandize are customers most likely to buy again, it doesn’t mean that their habits will stay like that for a very long time. Humans are tended to change and change their buying behavior due to change of lifestyle, age, economical status, life circumstances. For example, I had a dog and I was constantly buying dog food, treats and toys online, but when my dog got hit by a car I wouldn’t like if Amazon would automatically send me it since it would make feel bad and sad. According to the article “The great consumer shift: Ten charts that show how US shopping behavior is changing” 75 percent of US consumers trying a new shopping behavior in response to economic pressures, store closings, and changing priorities. This general change in behavior has also been reflected in a shattering of brand loyalties, with 36 percent of consumers trying a new product brand and 25 percent incorporating a new private-label brand. Of consumers who have tried different brands, 73 percent intend to continue to incorporate the new brands into their routine. It shows that purchase history is a great tool for inventory and approximate prediction, but it cannot guarantee that customers will stick with it forever.

Holocracy can be seen as the system or framework. The system of rules to get order without bosses. In his TED talk, Brian Robertson discusses the main shifts that holocracy brings into the organization, like dynamic roles, distributed authority, rapid iteration, and transparent rules held in the company’s constitution. So, basically, the CEO creates a set of rules (constitution) and lets the other members of the company function according to that set of rules. You are free and dynamic in your decisions and actions as long as it doesn’t violate the rules. Because every organization needs some sort of boundaries. But the main point is that you don’t ask permission to act you are acting. The set of rules can be constantly updated by the members of the organization.
I think that the whole holocracy idea looks attractive and evolutionary. But it would be hard to implement in some cases. For example, at UPS we have a scanning position: a person whose main job is to scan packages. And there is a pre-loader: a person who is unloading the packages. According to Robertson and Tony Hsieh one of the main points of holocracy is a dynamic role. Hsieh said that the person is free and can find a job within the circles of the company that works better for them. But scanning is definitely a better and easier position within the company though it is still in the same tier. So, what if everyone will say that scanning suits them better? Besides of that, there should always be management over distributing resources and the budget, and an HR manager. That is why I do not think that the company can eliminate management completely. There should always be a hierarchy – for control and motivation in some parts of the organization.
