OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT The project must be an empirical study (using data) of one of the topics given below. It must be extremely analytical while staying objective. You must use information seen in class, seen in MindTap, seen on the tests and in the textbook (in other words microeconomic theories and models) along with actual data and information found within a variety of sources. Show that you can relate the theory seen in class to specific real-world issues and cases.
Assume that the reader has an understanding of microeconomics (For example: you do not have to define and explain a price ceiling or elasticity). INFORMATION REGARDING DRAFT A Draft must be submitted at the latest on (On Turnitin). It must be an analysis of one part (1 section) of your paper that includes data and the use and application of at least one model. Maximum length of draft is 2 pages of TEXT (plus graphs and data). Be clear that I will not read more than the first 2 pages of text.
For the Draft, you do not need a formal introduction and conclusion, focus on clearly analyzing one issue using and applying theory. MAXIMIZING THE PAPER’S GRADE – Microeconomic theory, models and graphs (those seen in class and the textbook) must be used to explain the various issues analyzed in the paper. – You must build your own graphs (ex: S&D) by using a computer software (ex: Microsoft Paint or Word). GRADE ALLOCATION AND DISTRIBUTION Your paper will be graded on; – The presentation (1point): The language, the clarity, the grammar and the structure of the paper. – The data (2 points): The quantity and quality of the data used to back up your points. – The analysis (5 points): The logic of the arguments, supporting facts to back up argument, the objectiveness of the analysis. – The theory (5 points): The quality and quantity of theory used and applied to explain and analyze specific issues.
This means how well you use and apply the right economic models (meaning GRAPHS) we’ve covered over the semester. – The Draft (2 points): The overall quality of the draft, how well you use theory to explain a specific issue and what data are you using to back up your idea. Keep in mind that the more effort you put into the project, the higher the quality is likely to be thus the higher the grade received.
