? Section number
2. Introduction (500-700 words) (20pts)
? Students must demonstrate deeper understanding by explaining relevant ideas and findings from previous studies that explore the topic further. The introduction should include a brief overview of the topic and a summary of the three journal articles or books and a concluding paragraph outlining the reason for the research topic chosen. (15pts)
? Hypotheses or Research question should be clearly stated after the concluding paragaph (5pts)
3. Methods: (15 pts)
? If an experiment was used, this section must include a complete list of relevant material, a clear step by step experimental design, identify fixed variable(s), control group(s), test group(s), independent variable, dependent variable and precisely explain how data was collected and measured (include units). If there are any ethical concerns they should be addressed by adding a consent form.
? If a survey was used, this section must include an explanation of the sample and sample size, how the survey will be conducted, a consent form, a minimum of 10 interview questions used (Close ended question should have answer options), and the google doc. link for the survey.
4. Results (20pts)
Data representation (10pts)
o Clearly present data in a tabular and/or graphic formats. Tables and graphs must be clearly labeled
Data Interpretation (10 pts)
o Explain data accurately and comprehensively.
5. Discussion (20pts)
a. Discuss the findings and write a comprehensive discussion relating findings to literature
6. Conclusion (10pts)
? If an experiment was used; did the experiment support the hypothesis, how do you know?
? If a survey was used, did your survey answer the research question if so what is the conclusion?
? Objectively reflect on your research methods, include strengths and limitations.
? Suggest relevant future research.
7. References (APA style) (9pts)
? At least three sources are research-based sources.
? All sources should be cited in APA Style
? In-text citation included
8. Overall Scientific Strength (4pts)
Must demonstrate an understanding of scientific research methods.
Must present a focused and clear research paper.

GEN 185 Final Project
- The final project in GEN 185 is a research paper and poster: 25% of final grade
- Each individual member should submit a report of their own individual findings (20% of final grade)
- Evidence of students completing the project should be included in the project submission. Failure to give evidence will result in a ZERO grade.
- Members of the same group should collaborate to put together ONE poster (5% of final grade)

POSTER PRESENTATION (5 %):
Presentations: You will be required to defend the outcomes of your research projects during your in -class presentation.
Step 1: Combine all research. Discuss the findings, summarize, and conclude.
Step 2: Cite all of the sources for any graphics used directly and/or created using the data from the original sources.
Step 3: Presentation- Practice together, check the flow, time and visual impact, revise the content, and help teammates improve their presentations.
Poster presentation – Layout the pages as a poster, check the flow and visual impact, rearrange and/or revise the content if necessary, and practice so that everybody can explain the project to the audience (visitors).
- The poster should “visually” appeal to the audience as one unified project, not a collection of small projects.
- The poster should be “self explanatory” – meaning that audience is able to follow the poster and understand the project without any explanation by the authors.
- Use graphics wisely and select the font/size/line spaces effectively – most of the audience will see your poster from a distance (1m away).
- The poster should be innovative, don’t just copy and paste. Try to use innovative ways to design and format the poster
Poster should include: 100pts
- Title and students’ names
- Background (summary of the three introductions)
- Each student- should include:
- Title of individual project
- Hypothesis/research question
- Methods
- Tables/Graphs (at least 5 for survey’s and all data for experiments)
- Data analysis
- Conclusion
- Discussion (a summary of the three discussions linking the findings of all group members)
- Conclusion
