This decade has seen a dramatic shift in the role of HR. Global, scalable, and multidimensional organizations are becoming more commonplace. There is still room for human interaction and touch in today’s technologically dominated world. Organizations are striving to improve their technology, automation, and scalability in order to better serve their customers and employees.
When it comes to this entire gamut of technological advancement and automation, we are missing the most important thing: recognizing the importance of human intervention and the value that an employee can bring to the company. Are we going to ignore the human element in this so-called “Technological and Automation Era”? It’s also possible that everything will be completely automated and there will be an overwhelming reliance on it. Is this one of the most frequently asked questions in our society? If so, then we’ll still have a semblance of our human nature left when technology truly takes over our live.
Human resources professionals play a critical role in re-establishing the human element both within and outside of their organizations. Despite the fact that we live in a “Technical” and “Virtual” world, where global boundaries have clearly faded and communication and networking has become extremely advanced, organizations are still unable to retain their employees. Many companies have come up with innovative ways to retain their employees, such as flexi-hours, working from home, work-life balance, and so on. However, they have failed to provide their employees with a human touch.
What, then, does it mean to have a human connection or to have a human side? Your company’s employees may have appreciated your efforts to foster a culture of professional development. However, this is not the end of the story!! If an organization fails to understand its employees’ human side, it doesn’t mean it’s a total failure. Organizational leaders must now refocus their attention on the well-being of their employees, act as mentors, foster a positive work environment, provide ample opportunity for growth and development for all employees, set short-term and midterm goals, and then finely fragment these objectives so that every member of the organization has a sense of belonging. Organizational ethics alone will not be enough to ensure long-term success. Organizational ethics as a set of doctrines is strictly adhered to by many organizations, resulting in high levels of rigidity in employee performance and longer-term viability.
HR policies, in particular, need to be more flexible in the way they are drafted by organizations. A strong collaboration and mutual trust between management and employees is also required, but this does not mean that you must delegate all decision-making to your employees. Creating a vibrant, causative, and culturally strong work environment would be possible if the management and employees had a strong mutual trust and respect.
