Transactional Leadership is a type of leadership that is based on the
The transactional leader oversees the organization’s daily operations, team performance, and compliance with standards in order to meet short-term objectives. They tend to think in terms of the present and are unconcerned about the future. They keep track of what needs to be done for the company’s growth by monitoring front-line operations (Kabeyi,2018). To maintain a steady flow of work, a transactional leader ensures that employees are motivated by offering rewards or incentives. If a team’s production isn’t meeting expectations, this type of leader is in charge of figuring out why. Leaders evaluate performance, provide constructive comments, consider ways to increase efficiency, and concentrate on structural policies.
Vince Lombardi is an example of a transactional leader who trained his squad to defend numerous other teams and won five championships (Ansary & Ansary, 2019). There are a number of managers at my job who encourage their employees, keep to short-term goals, maintain growth, monitor production improvements, and frequently give prizes, resulting in long-term and successful employees.
Leadership that transforms:
Transformational leaders think beyond normal operations, developing ways to bring new ideas to the organization and making systemic improvements to help personnel. They inspire followers to share their knowledge and to be creative in order to improve the company and its goals. Employees receive the appropriate training and resources from their leaders. They debate strategies and make choices in collaboration with all levels of the company to ensure beneficial results (Kabeyi,2018).
Reed Hastings strengthened Netflix’s work culture by encouraging employees to take on more duties and ownership in order to help the company succeed. He blended transformational leadership with creative knowledge to reinterpret a few internal procedures, such as travel policy adjustments, time off flexibility, the elimination of formal reviews, and encouraging staff to take ownership of their new ideas (Goncalves, 2018).
Leadership Styles: Transactional vs. Transformational
Both perspectives are advantageous to the business. Its effectiveness is determined by the type of business, whether small or large, as well as the organization’s goals and visions, as well as its operational structure. Manufacturing companies, for example, benefit from transactional style, while organizations that require creativity, such as Amazon, will benefit from transformational style. When it comes to a larger corporation, innovation is always the driving force for achieving success and being unique, while also keeping track of daily operations to stay in the game.
