Systematic Review Process Assignment
A systematic literature review is an essential exercise in any of the research process. Through a systematic literature review, a scholar is able to evaluate some of the previous works that have been done in the past in the area of interest. The systematic review follows a set of steps aimed to enable one to achieve the expected outcome from the exercise.
Description of the Systematic Review Process
Systematic literature review process follows a series of four steps. The first step entails identifying a topic of interest. The topic defines the area of interest that the scholar intends to base his or her investigation. For instance, in this particular situation, the topic and the area of interest is assessing the benefits of mHealth technology among diabetic patients. The second step entails the identification of the sources that are relevant to the topic. The sources can be relevant in terms of relating to one or several aspects of the area of interest. The number of sources that a scholar can evaluate is dependent on the preference of the scholar and the scope of the topic. The third step entails scaling down the search to fine details where one gets to narrow down on the most relevant sources in terms of the time when the sources were published and the credibility of the research modalities used. In the third step, the scholar should read and critically analyze the sources and how they relate to the topic. The fourth step entails writing a literature review.
Literature Review
A wide range of research has been undertaken in the area of mHealth and its benefits to patients suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes. Mhealth is explained as the incorporation of mobile phone technology in the process of delivering care to different patients (Bradway et al., 2017). Mobile phones are becoming a critical element in peoples’ lives, and it is prudent to assess ways through which the same can be used to improve the delivery of care. According to Kaufman et al. (2016), one of the notable benefits of mHealth includes cutting down on the cost of care on both sides of the patient and healthcare provider. Mhealth aids in cutting down the cost by facilitating timely follow up and update on the condition of the patient. Kaur.,R, Kajal, Kaur., A, and Signh (2015) asserts that timely follow up among diabetic patients cushions the patients from the unanticipated complications that may arise from the diabetic condition. When a healthcare provider is in constant touch with the patient, he or she is able to direct the patient on the way forward and the process preventing exacerbation of the diabetic condition. Istepanian and Al-anzi (2018) argue that mobile phones are being integrated as an important element of self-management among diabetic patients. In most of the cases, the self-management among diabetic patients usually entails full efforts and contribution of the patient. However, with mHealth, the patient can be in constant engagement with the healthcare provider and on the process increases the efficiency of the self-management.
In conclusion, it is clear that systematic review is a crucial exercise in any research process. The scholar must adhere to the four steps of a systematic review to achieve the desired results from the same. The steps are essential as they ensure that the scholar is able to identify evidence to back up his or her area of interest and also learn on the contributions that have been made in the area. In this particular case, the systematic review has facilitated echoing on the benefits that diabetic patients can derive from the use of mobile technology.
