Overview
Students will work in groups of four to develop a digital media strategy for the Relay for Life event. Students will be evaluated on the depth and accuracy of the content, as well as originality and visual quality, using theory presented in workshops as a foundation.
Scenario
Relay for Life began in the United States in May 1985, when surgeon Dr. Gordy Klatt wanted to raise cancer awareness and funds to help patients. He spent a grueling twenty-four hours in Tacoma, Washington, circulating a track and raising over $27,000, demonstrating that one person can truly make a difference.
Since then, Relay For Life has grown to become the world’s largest cancer fundraising event. This inspiring overnight event, which is attended by over 4 million people in over 20 countries, empowers and unites local communities in the fight against cancer.
It all started in Australia in 1999, when the Murrumbeena community in Victoria raised over $75,000 for Cancer Council. Every Australian state and territory now hosts relays, with over 134,000 participants raising over $14 million each year. Every dollar raised supports the Cancer Council’s vital research, prevention, and support programs, many of which directly benefit people in your community.
