Prompt: This writing assignment will have you describe a problem with the juvenile justice system, critically analyze it, and provide a solution to this problem. Some examples might be disproportionate minority confinement, recidivism, juvenile curfews, zero tolerance policy for/with school searches, socio-economic factors affecting delinquency, high levels of trauma experienced by juvenile offenders, lack of mental health services for juvenile offenders, parental liability for juvenile offenses, the practice of trying juveniles as adults, the school to prison pipeline, or life without parole for juvenile offenders.
An introduction must be provided to summarize and define your topic, including a clear statement of the problem or issue of concern. You should also provide statistics and examples to show that this is a problem, and explain why this is a problem. Finally, you should discuss how this problem could better be addressed – drawing from content from the course and/or your own ideas. Papers should be 2-3 pages minimum, and you should cite anything you take from the textbook or any outside sources using APA or ASA citations.
