Critical thought
In recent years, the market for food products for young people has risen significantly. As a result, the youngsters are now highly potential clients and intensive and specialized marketing and promotion efforts are the emphasis.
Children and young people are becoming attractive consumers and influencers: they are having a growing influence on purchases from their families. Kids are an essential target group for marketers, because they have their own buying power, influence shopping decisions of their parents and are tomorrow’s consumers. Advertisers are keen to seduce them from a young age. To make sure that young people interest themselves, corporations choose for a combination of diverse forms and channels such as TV advertising, competitions and games, toys, popular characteristics, the use of different attractive colours, school commercialization, the internet and branded items etc.
Food and beverage products aimed at children have expanded, with food heavy in calories, sugars, salt, fat, lacking in nutrients, and thus not compatible with national dietary recommendations, dominant.
Mr. Fahmy already owns a food industry firm and wishes to set up a new subsidiary for children specialized in natural and organic items. The objective is to produce healthy, nutritious foods and use more healthy ingredients.
