Start by reading Section 10.4 of your textbook, which is titled “Indian Removal” (within the chapter on Jacksonian Democracy). Then watch this week’s film on the “Trail of Tears.” Finally, go over the background information and sources in the document pack about Indian Removal (posted under the forum).
The First Post
The policy of Indian removal is viewed as an unjust action by the American government in the United States, but there was debate about it at the time. Respond to the following question in the forum: What were the three most compelling counter-arguments to the Indian Removal policy? What was the US government’s justification for the policy? Why did so many indigenous peoples choose to follow the policy?
You should include the following in your first post:
1) Take a firm stance on the three most compelling counter-arguments to Indian removal;
2) Explain and support your arguments with at least two documents.
3) Describe two arguments made by President Andrew Jackson in support of Indian removal and explain why they are false;
4) Using Elias Boudinot and Winfield Scott as sources, discuss two reasons why native Americans supported the policy of Indian removal. The length of your post should be at least 250 words.
This discussion pays particular attention to reconstructing and refuting the arguments in favor of the Indian Removal policy from Document B, and it does so well. Can you also respond to the counter-arguments in Documents A and C to the Indian removal policy?

Colleagues’ Reaction
You should respond to two colleagues’ posts. (Please note that these will only be visible after you have made your first post.)
Each time you respond to a coworker, you should:
1) Discuss one aspect of their argument that you found convincing and explain why;
2) Explain your reasoning for one point that your colleague could improve or consider.
