Week 9: Introduction to Digital Learning Experiences
Nursing education in every practice setting is critical to staying current with information, clinical skill aptitude, and best practices. Time and location barriers can prevent nurses from sitting down in a traditional classroom to further their education and hone their craft. The increased presence of online learning experiences gives nurses more opportunities to advance their knowledge without disrupting their lives. However, designing and delivering nursing content that is effective and useful requires creativity and skill—and comes with challenges.Think back to the first digital or online learning experience you had. What were your biggest concerns or worries? What challenges did you face as a student? Considering some of the challenges and issues that students may face helps nurse educators develop and adapt educational experiences for the online environment.
This week, you explore not only the instructional challenges of a digital learning environment but also the ethics and policies that accompany the environment.

Regardless of the environment, any learning experience brings challenges. Students in an online environment may worry about their technological skills or how they will interact with others. Students in a face-to-face course may feel anxious about the pace of material delivered live or how they will fit each class session into their schedule.
When thinking of digital experiences, educators not only have to consider the challenges students face but also address their own challenges including ethical considerations and best methods for delivering content. Not all methods that are appropriate in a traditional classroom can be used in an online setting. For example, consider a lesson where students are asked to gather vitals from a partner. How can this be accomplished online? A new strategy is needed.
In this Discussion, you reflect on how to address the challenges, ethics, and policies associated with digital learning.To prepare:
Read the journal articles by Kenzig (2015) and Bristol (2019) in the Learning Resources.

Post an analysis of the challenges you foresee in delivering content in environments other than the classroom or face-to-face. What ethical issues and policies will you need to consider? Which modality (face-to-face or online) best suits your topic, learner groups, and characteristics, and why? Be specific and provide examples.Use the Learning Resources and/or best available evidence from current literature to support your post.
