1.A topic that I am interested is the prevention of Type II diabetes among children with the help of exercise and effective meal planning.Type II diabetes are on the rise especially in children as it can be contributed to fast food consumption and inactivity. Unlike Type I diabetes that is an autoimmune disorder, Type II diabetes is most likely from sedentary lifestyle. This topic interests me because some patients that I have taken care of are diagnosed with Type II diabetes. Some of my patients have shared stories that by being more active and eating healthier foods has helped them control their diabetes without the use of insulin. I will be researching the types of exercises that are beneficial for patients with Type II diabetes and the diet that is preferred. Also researching how this can decrease the likelihood of children into being diagnosed with Type II diabetes.Problems that can arise from this topic would be the cost of healthy foods vs fast food, finding the time to exercise, motivation, and teaching.
Problem statement: Diet and exercise have been key factors for maintaining a healthy lifestyle from preventing diseases, such as Type II Diabetes. With fast food being more affordable and technology use has increased, we can see more of childhood obesity that can lead to Type II Diabetes. By making healthier food choices affordable, decreasing technology use, and education can decrease the chances of children being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes.
2.Topic Proposal
Childhood obesity is a condition in which a child is significantly overweight for his or her age and size. The risk factors for childhood obesity include but are not limited to physical inactivity, consumption of low-nutrient foods and beverages, consumption of high-calorie, family factors, and psychological factors. Childhood obesity is a topic of interest for two reasons. The first reason is its prevalence. According to the CDC (2020), at least 13.7 million children and adolescents in the United States are obese. This implies that 18.5% of children and adolescents are obese in the United States. Secondly, childhood obesity is particularly troubling because the extra pounds often start children on the path to health problems that were once considered adult problems – diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol (Sanyaolu et al., 2019).
Problem Statement
Obesity is quickly becoming one of the most prominent conditions affecting children and Adolescents Sanyaolu et al. (2019). Children are considered a priority because, while fifty percent of the adults are overweight in many countries, it is difficult to control the problem once one is in adulthood stage. The purpose of the project is to survey the prevalence of obesity and the intervention strategies for preventing the disease in children. The question this research will answer is on how to deal with obesity in children and the necessary preventive measures.
