Milestone Paper for the Philosophy Course
Instructions
This is the first of three assignments in a three-part project. At this stage, you only need to concentrate on portion one. Each stage will build on the previous one. However, giving a rough draft of the full project, or even a portion of it, in week three is not an option. That is, future steps may necessitate entirely fresh and original text. Simultaneously, finishing each step will assist you in completing a subsequent step or stages. In addition, you should stick to the same theme across all of the processes.First, choose a morally contentious, debatable, or disputable topic. Euthanasia, the death penalty, abortion, cloning, and other similar issues are examples of such topics. You are free to choose any such topic. It isn’t necessary to list it here.
Then, describe each side of the ethical debate in depth. Take note of at least two moral grounds presented by each side to prove their point of view is correct.
Now we’ll use the moral theories we learned about this week to examine these positions:
What would an Ethical Egoist have to say about it? What would the Ethical Egoist’s stance be? What would an Ethical Egoist say to defend their moral stance? Is there a tension between self-loyalty and community loyalty that is important to your topic? If that’s the case, how so? Make a mental note of what you believe is the best course of action.
What do you think a Social Contract Ethicist would say about this? Which side would the Ethicist of the Social Contract take? What would an Ethicist of the Social Contract say to defend their moral position? Is there a conflict between personal and national obligations in your topic? If that’s the case, how so? Make a mental note of what you believe is the best course of action.
Finally, cite and discuss any relevant professional codes of ethics, such as the AMA code for doctors, the ANA code for nurses, or any other relevant professional code. Indicate whether or whether the topic you’ve picked has any conflicts between work and family obligations.Incorporate outside sources, including citations, and cite the textbook.
