(Reid, 2016), the author highlights the importance of customer service and refers to the “Platinum Rule” for creatinggreat customer relationships. Your textbook highlights the importance of customer service as a competitive weapon that is tough to duplicate. Time, reliability, communication, and convenience are the four characteristics of customer service in logistics. The key drivers of globalization
that contribute to these four dimensions are advanced transportation and technology. On page 124 of your work, there is a table called Table 7.2. (Murphy & Knemeyer, 2018).
You will investigate a significant global transportation company for this assignment, produce a paper about how customer service supports logistics and supply chain management, and then examine how this relationship contributes to a company’s competitive edge in the global marketplace.
In your paper, you state:
From Forbes’ list of the World’s Largest Transportation Companies (Links to an other site. ), choose one transportation firm.
Explain how each of the four elements of customer service is supported by your chosen company’s existing logistics and/or supply chain management methods. (A smart place to start your investigation is the company’s website and annual report.)
With at least two of the four dimensions, assess how the company might increase each dimension’s contribution to future profitability and/or customer service gains. To back up your claim, give two to three examples of how other companies have already done so.
