1: Martin Luther Kings Figurative speech
Metaphore (Lucas 221): King says that the people of color in America were given a bad check
Simile (Lucas 220): King states that the Emancipation Proclamation came as a great beacon line of hope
Parallelism (Lucas 222): He repeats “now is the time” before stating that it is time for rights to be issued to colored people as well.
Repetition (Lucas 223): King says “I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream.”
Alliteration (Lucas 223): He describes their discontent as a sweltering summer
Antithesis (Lucas 224): King says “I Have a Dream” speech is, I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
2: Metaphor: “Though the truth may vary, this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore.” This is a line from Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men. The line is a metaphor for the singer hearing his deceased partner’s voice and him wondering if it’s her actual spirit or if he is going crazy. The line specifically references that the singer doesn’t care which option is true, he is just glad to be able to hear her voice.
Repetition: “Is there any life on Mars, Is there any life of Mars, is there any Life on mars”- Mars by YUNGBLUD
- Hate is a monster that can sometimes disguise itself as a friend

Repetition: “100 years later…”
Metaphor: “America has given the Negro people a bad check…”

Antithesis: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
Parallelism: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.”
- Metaphor/Repetition: “Daylily” by Movements
“You are the rustling of leaves And you are that honeysuckle breeze You are the sunlight, shine on to me Shine on to me, shine on to me”
- I’ll share a haiku I wrote last year as I feel like the last line could be taken as a metaphor.
A world with too much
But all of its meaningless
A full glass that’s cracked
