Broad Purpose of the course-In this course we will explore the Italian-Speaking world in great detail. The course is a Foreign Language course. The main vehicle of the course will be English. References in Italian will be made throughout the course. Foreign language teaching encompasses five skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening and culture. In this course we will scrutinize the culture skill. All aspects of the culture and civilization of the Italian-speaking world will be discussed and researched. Students will gain a true perception of the Italian individual, which is based on factual information, and student directed research.
Curricular Placement-The course is being offered as a component of the foreign language department and will help the student fulfill the college’s global studies requirement. It has been designed to help the student gain a true global perspective and to realize the beauty in the diversity of all people which is one of the underlying missions of Albertus Magnus College. The focus of the course is for the student to gain a true perception of this people and to realize that all cultures are unique and need to be better understood through proper research and reasoning.
