Importance of Time Management Assignment
Introduction
The purpose of this paper is the identification of a project that was successful using metrics and the impact those metrics had on it. For my final project I’ll be discussing the first option on the assignment list, and I will provide a timeline with the work I’ll be conducting for the future weeks.
To better define a project, we should take in consideration strategy, action, accuracy, relevance, and simplicity, all key metrics that will help characterize the project. Many value- based metrics are used by management to better measure the performance of a project and prove the project’s value. For example, productivity metrics are used to better understand and measure the value that is created from a resource standpoint.
Normally a project should consider all the metrics that are efficient and optimize all activities and tasks involved in a project. Therefore, effective Management of Time, Cost, and Scope metrics will play an important role in any project. Using time cycles will determine from the beginning which phase of the project we’re covering, what time was utilized, and what are we missing to complete each phase of the project. This way we can understand if there’s a need for corrective actions and the importance of time management.
Timeline of activities
In this paper I’ll be presenting the timeline of activities that will be conducted for the following weeks for this project, roadblocks, and concerns regarding the project, and plans for overcoming the obstacles in this case.
Week 2
For this week I’ll be researching and documenting the importance of metrics in a project and the effectiveness of using time management, cost, and scope.
Week 3
This week will be about applying the knowledge of project metrics, trying the identify its key components by understanding and defining them.
Week 4
For this week will be important to research and understand how to apply project metrics, document, and define Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
Week 5
For week five will do my research regarding the application on value-based project management metrics and the importance of selecting the right project metrics.
Week 6
Week six will be all about project performance dashboard, including use, design, and limitations.
Week 7
In this week the research will be focused on the actual application of visual project management tools, which will include project performance dashboards.
Week 8
For this last week the research will be about creating the performance indicators for application in measurement-driven project management and conclusion of the project.
Concerns and Roadblocks
One of my major concerns will be understanding each topic the way an experienced project manager understands and applies all metrics to a project. Document my findings properly so that the final project will be successful.
Overcoming all concerns
To overcome this obstacle, I’ll try to dedicate as much time possible to researching and reading all that is required each week, but also my own readings.
