Ghost Story and Filmography Analytical Review
filmographyYour first formal assignment for this course is to create a filmography. This filmography will focus on the films that have been most impactful in your life, and for whatever reason have made a lasting impression on you. You will assemble a list of 10-15 films and offer brief observations about the appeal of these films and their characters. You will be required to organize this filmography as you would an annotated bibliography for any other class, so please be precise.
Begin each entry in your filmography with a citation in the Modern Language Association (MLA) format. List each film by its title (in italics). Include the name of the director, the distributor, and the release year. If relevant, list performer names after the director’s name. Use the abbreviation perf. to head this list. End the entry with the appropriate medium of publication (e.g. DVD, VHS, Laser disc). Double-space all material in each entry:
Ed Wood. Dir. Tim Burton. Perf. Johnny Depp, Martin Landau, Sarah Jessica Parker, Patricia Arquette. Touchstone, 1994. DVD.
The annotation that follows the citation need not be more than 2-3 lines, but you may write more if you wish. Each annotation should address and answer the following questions:
What is the genre of the film?
What about the film made an impression on you? (For instance, consider acting, plot, setting, art design, dialogue, etc.)
What is significant or memorable about the character/s?
Your annotations can be crisp and colloquial. Let them capture, in your own voice, the essence of your feelings about the films and characters. Ultimately, each entry should provide information that is clear, accurate, and particular to your own experience of the film. When you’ve completed your list, alphabetize your entries by title and, voila! You have your personal filmography, a document that should tell you as much about yourself as about your film and character interests
