Description/Paper Instructions
Practicum: Practicum Experience (assignment)
Consider the concepts covered this week as your practicum progresses. Conduct research to learn more about how challenges with health information systems and other resources, such as finances, staffing, and materials, may impact the implementation of your proposed change.
You also consider how helpful your practicum experiences have been in encouraging your professional development. What challenges do you face now, or do you expect to face in the future? What can be done, if necessary, to ameliorate the situation?
To get ready, do the following:
During Week 1, consider the learning objectives and activities you created for your practicum experience. Take into account the leadership skills you learned in Weeks 2 and 3.
What new skills or insights have you obtained thus far as a result of your practicum? What impact do you believe this will have on your leadership development and the implementation of your suggested change? What changes to your leadership presence in the practicum environment—or your change plan—might be necessary? What extra resources would be most helpful right now?
Complete the following:
What new skills or insights have you learned as a result of your practicum? How is this affecting your leadership development and strategy for the change you want to make? What more resources might be helpful?
My point of view:
In order to achieve the desired goals, the transformation process must be well-planned. Because graduates serve as change agents, reflect on practicum experiences, and influence professional progress, the DNP program encourages the translation of knowledge into best practices.
We still utilize paper charting at my practicum site. My goal is to help the center implement electronic medical records (EHR). My strategy is based on Lewin’s change theory (White, Dudley-Brown, & Terharr, 2016). My project’s first phase entails generating the notion that change is essential. While gaining organizational support, the change agent might urge others to accept a new method to doing duties. After that, I’ll work on the desired improvements. Helping coworkers learn about EHRs, collaborating, finding role models to guide the desired change, and allowing coworkers to acclimate to the new system are all part of this phase (Weiss, Tappen, & Grimley, 2019). Finally, the clinic will adopt EHR as part of its normal operating practices.
I was able to connect theory and practice by doing scheduled and supervised labor. My leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and time management skills have all improved as a result of the experience. However, I still need to work on honing my advocacy abilities. My main worry is the expense of planning and implementing change while maintaining the highest level of care quality and safety.
The practical program helps me to consider and apply the profession’s scientific foundations. Second, by evaluating best practices and participating in research initiatives for knowledge creation, the program emphasizes accountability in pioneering quality improvement (Pritham & White, 2016). Furthermore, I will be better equipped to employ technology innovation to improve care delivery. Interprofessional collaboration will also help me manage interdisciplinary teams better (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). Another learning opportunity is to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and advocacy skills in order to improve population health and reduce healthcare inequities. As I pursue a variety of possibilities, the DNP fundamentals will strengthen my nursing practice and prepare me for more advanced responsibilities.
