Id of course strongly encourage you to start with something you are particularly interested in. But if you dont have any ideas or preferences, or would like some inspirations, the following are my thoughts (not questions).
1. You could look at the current national & world affairs, such as the ongoing Hong Kong demonstrations. How do the western, Chinese, or Hong Kong social media portray the local government, the demonstrators, the police, the students, the public? How do they prime or frame the violence?2. How do celebrities/influencers use social media to promote unhealthy lifestyles/ biases/ ideologies? For instance, if you follow @danbilzerian on Instagram where he showcases his lavish lifestyle on a daily basis, you would notice that all of his posts are about women, guns, and his metrosexual self. How does he objectify/symbolize men, women, or himself? Or masculinity, femininity? How does he construct a tough-guy persona/image of himself?
3. How do some religions use social media to convert people?
4. How does a fast food chain use social media to promote health eating? (Ironically! Especially when they intend to entice you to buy their unhealthy food.)
5. How do partisans use social media to deepen political divides? There are tons of partisan media accounts on the internet, you may look at how they frame their favored candidates/opponents.
6. You could look at cultural differences, such as collective vs. individualistic cultures. If the posts are always about IMe, probably individualistic; We us all, maybe collective. Its up to you to interpret. You may also associate with gender. If you observe that a female often uses “we” “us” “together”, what does that signify? What about a male leader/politician using “I” “Me” “Absolutely” “No!”.
7. If you take a look at a south Asian clothing brand @ouisphilippeindia on Instagram, would you find it interesting that they seem to feature light skin color models mostly? Can you also observe such a phenomenon on some cosmetic brands?8. Look at some puzzles. Why would Mexican immigrants/refugees support Trump? Wouldnt that contradict our common sense?

10. I was skimming through recent tweets from @kimguilfoyle and found that it would be interesting to ponder over the way she links patriotism to idolizing Trump. Her Twitter profile background is a photo of the Trump family!
11. Relate the social media posts to some theoretical lens, such as capitalism, neo – liberalism.

The answer is complete. 50 points: The essay illustrates exemplary understanding of the relevant material by thoroughly and correctly addressing the relevant content; identifying and explaining all of the key concepts/ideas; using correct terminology explaining the reasoning behind key points/claims and substantiating, as necessary/useful, points with several accurate and illuminating examples. No aspects of the required answer are missing. Use of Sources (worth a maximum of 20% of the total points). Zero points: Student failed to include citations and/or references. Or the student failed to submit a final paper. 5 out 20 points: Sources are seldom cited to support statements and/or format of citations are not recognizable as APA 6th Edition format.
