Requirements:
Your term paper will be a research paper that requires you to conduct careful research concerning one of the above topics to form your argument/thesis statement. Please refer to the “Research Paper Rubric” on Brightspace for detailed requirements. There will be two components to the term paper: 1) A proposal for the term paper (5%); 2) The final draft of the term paper (20%) and a self-assessment or research reflection (5%).
Part I: Proposal (5%, 2-3 pages, double-spaced), due by 11 p.m., Nov. 7
Your proposal needs to cover the following items, but not necessarily in the order as listed.
Part I (1 point):
- Identify a topic area; findings in your research on a topic
- Questions that have arisen in your research
- Develop a research question
Part II (1 point):
- Develop a thesis statement (1%, one statement, one or two sentences, that usually answers your research question.) Here is a link to thesis statements.

Part IV (2 points):
- Annotated bibliography (You need to comment on how each article/book in your bibliography may be useful to your research.) (0.5 point)

Part II: Final Draft (1500 words, 20%, double-spaced) with a self-assessment or research reflection (300-500 words, double-spaced, 5%), due by 11 p.m., Nov. 28.

Your research reflection should include the following:
- Provide a summary of your research project. Describe the purpose and objectives of your research project and what you have done to achieve your goals.
- Explain your methodology: did you apply primary research or secondary research or both? Why did you choose the method? Did it work well? Were there difficulties/obstacles? Did you resolve the issue, or is it something that awaits further research?

Requirements on the Sources for your Research:
Authoritative and reliable sources are crucial for the success of your research project. You need to consult three or more current sources that are peer-reviewed journal articles or scholarly books. Authoritative academic sources include scholarly journal articles and book chapters, such as the assigned reading materials for this course. Random Web sources, newspapers, magazines, personal blogs, are not allowed. Examples of authoritative Web sources: https://plato.stanford.edu; http://www.iep.utm.edu. Requirements on the Formatting:
The formatting of your term paper should be in accord with the convention of scholarly writing.
The format should follow the MLA or APA formatting. They must:
– Be formatted appropriately (1” margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, numbered pages)
- Be rigorously checked for spelling and grammar
- Include a title, your name, student number, the course title, and the name of the professor.
- Provide citations for all sources and quotations.
- Include a complete bibliography at the end that includes only works you have cited in the paper.

The Student fails to provide an adequate synthesis of research collected for the paper. 10 out 20 points: References to scholarly sources are occasionally given; many statements seem unsubstantiated.
