Consider the following scenario.
Micro Bike is a Buckhead, Georgia-based scooter and bike manufacturer. The firm creates foldable “green” motor scooters for usage in urban areas. Although sales in the United States have been increasing, the market size and population density are substantially smaller than in Asia. Micro Bike is owned by Mark and Jessica Lapin.
Because of rising internet orders, the Lapins have been researching industry growth trends. The company’s current total revenues are $3.2 million, with $4.9 million forecast for 2017. Because online orders have risen in the last three months, the owners expect real sales will exceed projected sales. E-commerce sales account for 45 percent of Micro Bike’s total sales. Ecommerce revenues are increasing.
Within the Asian market, three major countries (Japan, India, and Vietnam) present enormous potential for the organization.
The majority of orders come from Ho Chi Minh City, Mumbai, and Tokyo. By launching an owner-operated local dealership, the pair is exploring expanding international while the market is still open to entrants. Are these the best cities to visit? There’s a lot to think about. To make a choice, the Lapins require additional information.
Instructions
The first step is to conduct research.
In this project, you will assist Micro Bike in conducting research on the idea of going worldwide and then writing a report for Mark and Jessica Lapin. To create the report, you will do research into the mobile scooter business in light of the elements discussed below.
The benefits and drawbacks of going worldwide;
What impact will globalization have on Micro Bike’s success?
Global trade presents significant obstacles;
Apply two of the modern ideas of international trade addressed in class and found in the course material to Micro Bike.
Explain how each theory aids a company’s decision to go global, and how Micro Bikes’ decision to go global is aided by each theory.
You are now ready to submit a recommendation to Mark and Jessica Lapin after finishing this section of the research.
Write a response to the question “Should the Micro Bike Go International: Why or Why Not?”
Step 2: Decide on a country.
Assume the response is affirmative.
Choose the greatest country to expand internationally and explain why in detail. Research and class materials should be used to back up the results.
Please explain why the other countries were not chosen.
Attractiveness of the country: which city and country are the most appealing for a motorcycle?
If any trade agreements apply to doing business in Mumbai, Ho Chi Minh City, and Tokyo, what are they?
Is there a trade pact that benefits US investors more than others?
If so, which one is preferable, and how does the trade deal improve things? Why not, if not?
Identify two political, two economic, and two cultural reasons that are particularly significant to the Lapin’s decision for each country.
Explain how each aspect might affect Micro Ride’s international success.
