Please respond to the following:
Evaluate your project management options in terms of schedule, performance, and cost for the following scenario. Support your evaluation.
An office building construction project in the southern Virginia area is 80% complete when a major hurricane strikes, stopping progress on the worksite for 10 days while damage is assessed and repairs are completed. The project has a fixed budget and a completion date that cannot be moved.
After posting your response, respond to at least one of your classmates on their suggestions.
please respond to student’s comment below;
Professor and Fellow Classmates,
It is complicated, and the weather can be unpredictable. This makes a project difficult because you are faced with the unknown throughout the planning process. Possibly develop a disaster risk management plan per the risk management plan. Disaster risk management is the application of disaster risk reduction policies and strategies to prevent new disaster risk, reduce existing disaster risk and manage residual risk, contributing to the strengthening of resilience and reduction of disaster losses (Disaster Risk Management, 1).
To develop a good risk management plan, a good project manager should look at past trends within the weather to assist in the planning. Let’s look at the state of Georgia, more specifically Savannah, Georgia. There was a break in hurricanes coming through the savannah, GA, between 1999 (Hurricane Irene) to 2016 (Hurricane Matthew). A project manager can use the information to determine the risk by using the history of the hurricane coming through that area. So, for planning purposes, national disasters such as Hurricanes should be a part of the planning when developing the risk management plan. Additionally, Historical data on the strengths of past storms and the effect on how to handle the workforce during the situation needs to be addressed.
With a fixed budget and a completion date that cannot be moved to the left or right, the project manager must assess the damage and develop a way to provide resources that agree to the overtime. At the same time, maintain the rest of the budget without going over. If the schedule really cannot be altered, the project manager will have to work on getting a new timeline that will meet the schedule, adjusting the different tasks and new deadlines.
