Subject: HistoryTopic: essay over Geoffrey Treasure’s book, Mazarin: The Crisis of Absolutism in FrancePaper details:
I have attached my 3 journals I wrote over this book so you can see my writing style and what he is asking of us. I am just in a time crunch with working 40 hours this week. It is due Friday, so I would like to have it by Thursday night. This is my instructions from my professor for this essay…. Western Civilizations II Paper 1 Prompt In Geoffrey Treasure’s book, Mazarin: The Crisis of Absolutism in France, the author describes Mazarin’s attempt to address what he called the, “continuing problem of government in France.” In addition in our lectures and discussions, we have seen a variety of challenges and changes to governments across Europe. Sometimes, governments have navigated these upheavals and crises successfully, and other times they have failed.
With this in mind, write an 800-1000 word essay describing and analyzing the ways governments have met, tried to meet, or failed to meet the challenges of the changing world we have learned about in the first 1/3 of our class (from the Peace of Westphalia to Napoleon). Some questions you may want to consider are:[1] What is causing the changes in Europe in this time period? Is it ideas, economics, social movements, or something else? How are governments and leaders constrained by the context of their times (including things like ideas, economics, tradition)?
How are the things governments are doing in some ways new, and in other ways not new? How do themes like sovereignty, national identity, governmentality, colonialism, global capitalism, and religion tie into your story? Your paper must have a thesis (argument) that you coherently argue throughout the entire paper. It must also include at least three concrete examples that you analyze to support your argument. At least two of these examples must come from the Treasure, Mazarin book and at least one of these must come from my lectures. You can also utilize the primary sources we read in the class, but these would be in addition to the required 3 examples. Be sure not to simply list examples that support your argument, but analyze (this means don’t just describe them, connect them to your argument). Formatting and Submission Guidelines Upload an electronic copay as an attachment (Word or pdf).
This must be in 12 point, Times New Roman font, double spaced and with your name, the name of the class, and the date in the upper right or left hand corner of the first page. Please take the time to proof-read and edit your paper carefully. Do not quote more than 3 sentences from Treasure in your paper, it is better to summarize in your own words. You do not need to cite the examples from my lectures (you may but you don’t have to say “as Dr. Seitz” said in his lecture”) you can simply write it as a fact that everyone knows. You only need to cite page numbers for the Treasure text if you make a direct quotation.
Otherwise just say, “as Treasure argued…” and then summarize. If you do use direct quotations, you can use in-text citations or (I would prefer) simply “As Treasure argued on page 75…” please do not include a works cited page and do not include this prompt in your papers. As for the examples he talks about above for examples from lectures and the book……I can’t get you my lecture notes, so just do 3 examples from the book instead of 1 being from the lectures.
