Overview of Project 2—Field Interview
As a system-based advocate, you’ve been tasked with evaluating police’ and other community-based partners’ grasp of crime victims’ rights by completing various surveys and individual interviews with cadets who have recently graduated from the academy. You will interview one person from each of the acceptable groups for Project 2 and provide a narrative description of your study of the interviewee’s understanding of the crime victims’ rights movement, as well as its history and growth over time. This analysis will be presented in the form of a 3-5 page paper that answers the following questions and analyzes the data.
Description of Project 2—Field Interview
Interviewee categories that are permissible include:
Prosecutor (inside the civilian criminal justice system); Law Enforcement (within the civilian criminal justice system); Judicial Officer (requires that they oversee a criminal docket); or Defense Attorney (may include a victim advocate, case manager, or crime victims’ rights attorney) (within the civilian criminal justice system).
It’s critical that the candidate you choose has had enough continuous contact with crime victims to provide you with enough data for your study.
Write a narrative paper after your interview that describes your evaluation of the person’s work and perspective/knowledge of victims’ rights. Include an examination of where their viewpoint is victim-centered or could be improved. A big part of this research is for you to look at what service providers and system participants do on a daily basis and examine how it affects their perceptions of victims and/or changes how they engage with them. At least five (5) citations to instructional course materials/reading assignments viewed during the semester must be included. Incorporating these supporting references into your analysis is critical for illustrating what you’ve learned in class and how it influenced your analysis during and after the interview.
